Meet our Team

  • Canon Paul Newman

Ordained 20th July 1989, Fr Paul has enjoyed working in a number of parishes throughout his ministry as a priest in the diocese of Nottingham.

He now has the responsibility for the pastoral care of the three Church communities across the Erewash Valley; Our Lady and St Thomas’ Ilkeston, Our Lady of Good Counsel Eastwood and St John the Evangelist Stapleford, all of which are dedicated as the Parish of Our Lady and The Beauvale Martyrs.

Fr Paul’s diocesan responsibilities include being a member of The Bishop’s Council and College of Consultors, Episcopal Vicar for Clergy in the diocese and chaplain to the Briars Youth Centre.

  • Fr Joby John

I’m a Catholic priest of Syro-Malabar Rite from India and am now here, in the Parish of Our Lady and the Beauvale Martyrs.

I was born and brought up in a family of two boys, in Kerala, the southern state of India.

I am thankful to you all, especially Bishop Patrick for providing me a beautiful place to live in.

Being a priest of our Lord, I am here to help you on the journey to the Kingdom of God in all the means that I can. I am also asked by the Bishop, to take care of the Indian Catholic Community and all their spiritual needs.

Hence, I request your valuable prayers and support so that I may be strengthened by the heavenly graces.

    Yours in Christ. Joby John

  • Carrie Leivers

Hi! My name is Carrie, many of you know me as Caz. I work at Our Lady of Good Councel Church in a lovely office and have done since September 2020. I do the Parish admin and shared finance.

Before working at OLGC I had many cleaning jobs, and worked at our local supermarket.

I love coming in on a Monday, Thursday and Friday to see my second family. We do have a lot of laughs and lots of coffee. What’s not to love!

Our Parishioners are what make my job so enjoyable. Always a friendly smile around and our helpers are amazing.

My Greatest accomplishment in life is my children. Me and my husband, Neil are the proud parents of 7 beauties who keep us on our toes but bring so much joy to our lives.

My door is always open and kettle always on.

Please do get in touch if I can help with anything at all.

    Take Care xxx

  • Lee Summers

I’ve been married to Carolyn for 32 years, we have 2 grown up children, a Daughter and a Son. Our daughter and her husband have blessed us with 3 beautiful princesses who have already wrapped Mamma and Grandad around their little fingers.

I was born and raised (and still live) in Eastwood/Nottingham to Catholic parents and have 1 brother. Both of us benefited from a great Catholic education in our local primary and secondary schools in Eastwood and Ilkeston.

I’ve had a wide and varied work life, from working in menswear shops, to a bakery, to I.T. Security, to providing mental health support. I’m currently the Adult Formation Coordinator at the Parish of the Holy Family in Nottingham.

I’ve always been actively involved in Parish life at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Eastwood, on and off the sanctuary and am honoured to be our first new combined Parish chair of the PPC.

I’m a foundation governor for 2 primary schools in Eastwood and Ilkeston and am currently studying for the permanent diaconate. I am 2 years into my 5 years formation at St Mary’s College, Oscott. It’s challenging but equally rewarding.

In my free time I love reading (lifelong fan of Agatha Christie), listening to music (very eclectic taste, from The Jam to George Michael). Going to concerts, (most recently 10cc and Rick Astley), going to the cinema (anything with mindless action or a few scares), restaurants (usually Italian) and the local micro pubs for a Cider or 2 with family. I’m a lifelong Forest supporter (not sure that’s enjoyment, more like penance at times !) So basically my hobbies are anything that involves sitting down !

My contact email is in our newsletter and please reach out anytime.

    Blessings.

    Lee.
